Muuni Fund held an interface meeting with District Commissioners and Chief Executive Officers of the Councils and Assemblies across Malawi. The District Commissioners and CEOs are crucial players in the implementation of the Muuni Fund.

The function was held today, at Sunbird Livingstonia Hotel in Salima and this meeting targeted all District Commissioners and CEO’s to further discuss and align on the progress as well as the implementation of the Muuni Fund. The meeting was graced by the MACRA Director General, Daud Suleman, while the Muuni Team was led by Ms. Wezi Salima.

“The District and City Councils are going to be an anchor to the Fund” – Director General, MACRA.

During the meeting, Ms. Salima, made a brief presentation which attracted views and observations from the DCs and CEOs. The main agenda of the meeting was to align Muuni with the District Councils and City/Town Assemblies, in order to finalize discussions on technical assistance required from the Councils and agreements on implementation between the councils and the fund.

The Muuni Fund is an ICT Research and Innovation Fund that will support and incubate local research and innovation across Malawi. The Fund will facilitate the development of skills in ICT in all economic sectors of the country.

Additionally, the fund will also promote the development of research facilities in academic institutions and the industry. The main purpose is to provide a sustainable environment that fosters research and innovation for local solutions.
